PDF Recovery When Reader or Acrobat Freezes When You Try Opening It

Solve Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader Freeze Problem
Sometimes, when you try to start Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, the application immediately quits and appears freezing and you may observe the below mentioned error message on your screen: “Can’t find Acrobat Plug-in.”

If, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 or Acrobat Reader 6.0 was installed on your computer, you may have noticed the following:

“acrobat.exe” (Acrobat 6.x) using 95% or more of the capacity of the system processor. The above mentioned error message i.e. “Can’t find Acrobat Plug-in.” can be resolved by performing one of the following solutions:

Solution 1
Delete the temporary files created by Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader and install the updated version. Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0 may not delete the temporary files that were created during normal processes, like filling in forms. Because, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader check the temporary files while starting up, this may take a long time. Checking of excess temporary files, can delay startup process. Therefore, delete the temporary files. Follow the below mentioned steps:

1. Select Start > Run and type command in the Open text box and click Ok

2. Type the commands given below and then press Enter after every command:

c:

cd\

del acr*.tmp /s

Important- Several lines of text fill the Command.com window as this process runs. Now wait for the process to get completed (when the text stops for approx 10 seconds) and then continue with the next step.

3. Type exit to close the Command.com window.

4. Install the update or upgrade the current version (if you using an older version)

Solution 2

You can recreate the Updater folder.

We suggest you to recreate the Updater folder to ensure that it doesn’t contain damaged or corrupt files:

1. Select Start > Run, type %appdata% in the Open text box and then click Ok. A window appears.

2. Navigate to \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\[Acrobat version number]\ in the resulting window.

3. Delete the Updater folder.

4. Restart Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. A new Updater folder is created during the startup.

Solution 3

You can simply repair Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
If you repair Acrobat, you need to have the Acrobat CD-ROM (or access for installing files on network). With the help of below mentioned steps, you can repair the Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader:

1. Select Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box and then click Ok. Add or Remove Programs dialog box appears.

2. Click Change or Remove Programs and then click Adobe Acrobat [version number] or Adobe Reader [version number]

3. Click Change/Remove or Change.

4. In the Setup dialog box, click Next, select Repair and then again click Next.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish repairing Acrobat or Reader.

Solution 4
Create a new user account with administrative rights and then log in to that account prior to starting Acrobat Reader.

With the help of above mentioned solutions, you can easily handle the freezing PDFs. However, in case your PDF file is corrupt or damaged, you can successfully recover your PDF file by using PDF Recovery software. Once the data is recovered from the corrupt PDF file, it is saved to a new PDF file at the location selected by you.
